Liberal Youth Scotland say NO to a rise in Tuition Fee

Liberal Youth Scotland, the youth and student wing of the Scottish Liberal Democrats, will today lobby Lib Dem MPs in a final effort to vote down the proposed rise in tuition fee.

Explaining the organisation’s action President Kristian Chapman said:

“Over the past few months I have been in communication with all Scottish Liberal Democrat MPs discussing this issue, and expressing our concern over the funding gap this will create between the English and Scottish institutions.

Today, I openly urge MPs of all parties to look at the wider picture and not to burden students after the degrees with a life time worth of debt and therefore ask them to vote against the fee cap being raised.

Liberal Democrat Education spokesperson Margaret Smith MSP said:

“Universities and colleges are devolved – they are the responsibility of the Scottish Parliament.

“There are no tuition fees in Scotland and no graduate contribution thanks to the votes of the Scottish Liberal Democrats in the Scottish Parliament.

“Scottish Liberal Democrat MSPs voted to abolish tuition fees that Labour imposed on Scotland.

“Scottish Liberal Democrats are focused on Sco

tland and a Scottish solution for Higher Education and Scotland’s students.”
