Commenting on statistics on higher education attainment and destinations of graduates published today, Liberal Democrat Education spokesperson Margaret Smith MSP said:
“It is deeply concerning that more than a third of graduates are searching for the right job a whole six months after graduating. As a mother of two new graduates, I know how hard this experience is.
“The Government have failed to plan for the future. They knew there would be more graduates but have neglected to stimulate jobs and internships for them.
“Young people graduating from university or college have made an investment in their future. We have to repay that investment and stimulate the economy by creating jobs for young graduates.”
Liberal Youth Scotland President Kristian Chapman, a recent graduate of Aberdeen University, said “The Scottish Government is letting down thousands of students, and in three and a half years have failed to put in place suitable oppurtunities for the workforce of tomorrow. Only the Liberal Democrats continue to stand up for students, and will invest in apprenticeships as well as new green jobs.”
