General Election 2010: A message from Liberal Youth Chair Alan Belmore

Like many of you, this is the first time I will have a chance to have a direct say in who runs our country. It is important that we take this opportunity to fight for and promote the change we want to see for our country. Nick Clegg has laid out key Liberal Democrat principles of fairer taxes, a fair start for children, fair, transparent and local politics and a fair, sustainable economy. Now it is time for the country to have their say, and as Chair of Liberal Youth will be vigorously campaigning on this these principles.

We in the Liberal Democrats believe our judgement on the big issues which face this country has been proven, from the economy to the illegal invasion of Iraq. Our party respects the passion and talent of young people not demonises them. We want every young person to fulfil their potential independent of their financial standing, and to save the only world we have from irreversibly damage caused by climate change. For me choice is clear; a progressive and fair set of policies or 5 more years of the same old blue-red red-blue politics. We must seize this chance to build a fairer Britain.

Liberal Youth branches across the country will be working to get as many Liberal Democrats MPs elected as possible to have the maximum impact in getting our policies adopted, so please get involved. Voting does make a difference. Your voice can be heard. Don’t wake up on May 7th wishing you could have done more. I wish you the best of luck for the upcoming campaign, with your help we can bring about the change this country need.
