On the 8th January it was announced that Ruaraidh Dobson co-founder of Liberal Youth Scotland, former Vice President and current president to the 2009/2010 administration put in his resignation. Ruaraidh has been crucial to the development to Liberal Youth Scotland but he has stated that he will not fall of the radar and still play a part within the organisation.
He had the following to say;
Dear Friends,
2009 was a big year for Liberal Youth Scotland. We’ve come from
nothing to be a major force in the party, making policy, holding
campaign days and taking real action across the country. Our profile
within the party has never been higher. I’m proud to have been a part
of that success.
As we go into a general election year, our skills and our abilities
will be needed more than ever to put Liberal voices into parliament.
This is a difficult task, and it requires the full focus of Liberal
Youth Scotland’s office-bearers, particularly the president.
Unfortunately,
due to the time pressures of my degree and campaigning in my own seat
in Paisley & Renfrewshire North, as well as our target seat of Glasgow
North, I don’t believe I can give my all to the task. Therefore, I’m
regretfully resigning from the post.
I’ve discussed this with the executive committee of Liberal Youth
Scotland, and I can say confidently that the group couldn’t be in
better hands. Kristian Chapman (Vice-President Campaigns) will take
over as Acting President as per the constitution. He’ll be a fantastic
and capable leader in the coming months, and the whole team will be
more than able to take our organisation to new heights.
I’ve met some amazing people in LYS, done some amazing things and
really had the time of my life. I just hope you’ve enjoyed the past
year as much as I have.
Thank you,
Ruaraidh Dobson
